Dear Parents,

We are getting closer to our online learning adventure! If you are receiving this, it is because you indicated to me that you were interested in the Long Term Flexible Learning Option. Some of you were still deciding. I put you on this list to be on the safe side. If you have changed your mind, please just let me know.

This year Riverdale Elementary began the WSD Ascend program which provides every student access to a digital device. The district is in the process now of assigning devices to students. Once that is complete, we will let you know when you can come and pick up your student’s device. Lori Corbridge (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) will be our WSD Ascend Specialist. She will be in charge of checking them out. She will also be your contact if your Chromebook needs repairs. If repairs are needed, please report them using the link below and then bring the device to the school. At that time, you will be provided with a “loaner” device.

There is no cost to parents for the use of the Chromebook.  As always, if there is damage to the Chromebook, the cost for repair/replacement is the responsibility of the parent/guardian.  Parents are welcome to opt in each year to a $25 Repair Assist Program to reduce the cost of repair.  For more information, see the link below.

Students will access the digital classroom using a Learning Management System called Canvas. Each digital classroom should have a similar format making navigation similar from grade level to grade level. I believe the district is working on creating a training video for parents. I will send that out when I get it.

We also have two Digital Learning Advocates, Nancy Wright (//This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it./" data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?q=http://This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it./&;source=gmail&ust=1598380859484000&usg=AFQjCNHhSOx8tnjuLBdzTF4m-j2N-Xod5Q">This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) and Lauretta Christensen (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) to support you and your student. They will be making contact at least weekly. Please reach out to them if you need something. Your child’s assigned teacher will be managing the curriculum and providing feedback. Since no one has ever done this before, I feel confident everyone will fall into their roles; just please reach out if you need support.

Please know that at the beginning of the year, teachers teach daily procedures very intensely. This year, procedures are going to be more important than ever. If there is not a lot of curriculum content available at the beginning just know that is because your child does not need to learn in-school procedures but it’s important to keep the entire group of students at the same place in their learning.

Another item that must be completed on your end is signing the WSD Acceptable Use Policy. You can find that by logging into your MyWeber account. This allows your child to use a district owned device. A device will not be checked out until this is complete.

That is all that I can think of for now. If you have questions, please reach out to any one of us. We will answer your question as soon as we can!

Back to School Night

2020-21

Dear Parents,

Due to COVID-19 and large group restrictions Back to School Night will look different than it has in the past. I hope that you will find it helpful, perhaps a little easier, and still receive important information.

Back to School Night will include three parts. First, the PTA, school nurse, Tech Services and myself will record a Welcome Video with explanations regarding the upcoming school year. At 3:30 and 6:00 on August 24th, we will also hold a Question and Answer session via Google Meet in order to answer any questions you may have. Please watch the Welcome Video before the Q & A session in case we answer your questions there.

Second, each teacher will record a video providing you with their information for the upcoming year.

Finally, from 3:30-6:30 the school will be open for the school-based Back to School Night by appointment only. This will be a time for your student to come and meet the teacher and see the classroom. You can schedule your appointment by logging into your MyWeber account. Appointments will be in 8 minute increments. We will ring a bell to signal it is time to transition. Please be on time and leave on time so that we can ensure social distancing and maintain a small number of people in the building.
