Riverdale Elementary Community Council Meeting Minutes

Riverdale Elementary Community Council Meeting: Tuesday, Oct. 1, 6:00 – 7:00 pm

Council Members in Attendance: Mike Jasper, Jen Thomas, Lyndsey Anderson, Lexi Olsen, Ashley Hardy, Sarah Goodsell, Brian Hall, Lindsay Bird, Valerie Loesch, Camee Ellis

Welcome Community Council Members/Rules of Procedures

Jen Thomas

Everyone was welcomed to our meeting, Jen went over the rules of order and procedures, and we had refreshments. 

Vote in new community council members 

Brian Hall

Brian moved that we approve Sarah Goodsell and Ashley Hardy becoming community council members, and Valerie seconded. The motion unanimously passed.

Review and Approve minutes from prior meeting

Brian Hall

Brian moved that we approve the minutes from the last meeting. Mike Jasper seconded, and the motion unanimously passed.

Review current School Land Trust Plan for 2024-2025 

Jen Thomas

Jen explained the school land trust plan to the council. She explained the school goals for the state to have 66% of students show growth in Acadience reading. She went over the action plan steps and expenditures for the plan. She discussed that we are doing a book study as a staff and invited everyone to join our book study if they’d like. She showed the estimated cost of the plan. She explained how the Title 1 money is being spent for the school year. 

People asked questions and Jen explained and answered them.

Jen explained the school-wide behavior plan and trackers that every student in the school has to track their daily behavior.

Overview the implementation of the School Land Trust Plan for 2023-2024

Jen discussed how the school grew significantly from last year in Acadience Pathways of Progress reading scores.

Data Review 2023-2024

Lyndsey Anderson

Lyndsey showed the reading pathways of progress data from the 2023-24 school year. She showed the percentages of students who achieved typical or above typical growth by last year's end. She answered questions about the data and what’s being done to help student growth increase this year. Lyndsey showed Acadience math data and showed the results for last year.

She then showed RISE score data and showed the proficiency at the end of the year. 

Then she explained what the school did last year to make growth and what they’re going to keep using.

Discussion of barriers that can get in the way of parent involvement and student growth

Community Council

Valerie asked if we could discuss what barriers are in place that can get in the way of things. Jen discussed possible barriers such as language barriers and parents being unavailable.
