Community Council Meeting Minutes

Riverdale Elementary Community Council Meeting

Tuesday, Sept. 26 · 6:00 – 7:00 pm

Welcome/Orientation for new members

Jen Thomas

Jen Thomas welcomed all and expressed appreciation for everyone coming. She previewed our meeting and then showed the School LAND Trust Training Video.

Community Council Rules of Order and Procedure

Jen reviewed the rules and procedures for our Council which include:attending meetings, considering the needs of students, valuing diverse opinions, and acting with integrity.

Elect a Chair and Co Chair

 

Jen Thomas explained about the duties of the Chair and Co Chair positions on the Council and described Brain Hall’s involvement on last year’s Council.  She then motioned that Brian Hall be Chair, Christy Eskelsen seconded the motion. The voting was unanimous.

Jen Thomas also told about Camee Ellis’s involvement and motioned that Camee Ellis be Co Chair.  Valerie Losch seconded the motion, and the voting was unanimous.

Review and Approve minutes from prior meeting

Camee Ellis seconded the motion.

Overview of the School Land Trust Plan

Jen Thomas discussed the two goals of our School LAND Trust Plan.:

  • Goal 1: 66% of all K-6 students will achieve typical or above typical progress on Acadience Pathways to Progress by the end of the 2023-2024 school year. 

A discussion ensued about the budget and that the majority of it is spent.on funding Reading Aides, and PLC teachers. 

  • Goal 2: By the end of the 2023-24 school year, Riverdale Elementary will show at least a 3% increase in the number of 4th-6th grade students who earn Student Growth Percentiles in the 40th percentile or above as measured by the RISE math assessment.

Action Plan Steps and Expenditures were discussed.

Budget items that were included: paying for substitutes, some PLC items, math software, etc.

Overview of TSSA plan

Jen explained that TSSA funding comes from the Federal Government, and it is also used to support the two goals from our School LAND Trust Plan.  She explained the expenditures in detail which include salaries for our Ed Tech, Behavior Aide, Paraprofessionals, a Mental Health Specialist, and other programs such as Acadience Math, Leader in Me, and LIteracy NIght.

Brian Hall asked if this funding is consistent from year to year, and Jen explained that yes it is however the amount may fluctuate,

Valerie Losch asked if the TSSA fund rolls over from year to year, and Jen Thomas explained that yes, they do.

Jen explained that we will have a Community Council Meeting once a quarter, and then she shared the dates.

Lyndsey Anderson

Lyndsey introduced herself and her role at the school to support teachers and implement the Acadience Reading Program.  She explained about Individual Student Growth Goals, and reviewed each grades’ percentage for the Pathways to Progress.

Lyndsey then explained the “Things We Are Doing” which include Strong Tier 1 Instruction, Reading Horizons, 95% Groups, Skill Checks and Progress Monitoring of all students.
