Community Council Meeting Minutes

Riverdale Elementary Community Council MeetingTuesday, Nov. 28th· 6:00 – 7:00 pm

Brian Hall

Brian welcomed everyone to the meeting.

Review and Approve minutes from prior meeting

Jen reviewed the minutes from last meeting.  Brian asked if the minutes get posted. Jen responded that yes, the minutes are posted on the school website.

Brian motioned to approve the minutes from last meeting.  Valorie seconded it.  The motion passed.

Title 1 School

Jen explained that our school has now qualified as a Title 1 School, which will bring a Title 1 Coordinator and $10,000.  For this year, Jen is hiring a Title 1 Aide, and we will receive $5,000 for our Literacy Night.

Overview the implementation of the School LAND Trust Plan

Jen reviewed  our Trustland goals, and updated the Council on our progress and the data.

The  Language Goal is 66% of all K-6 students will achieve typical or above typical progress on Acadience Pathways to Progress by the end of the 2023-2024 school year.

She explained about reading aides, school wide reading interventions, and how teachers are progress monitoring their students.

A good discussion followed about things that parents can do at home to help their children make typical or above typical growth.

The Math Goal is by the end of the 2023-24 school year, Riverdale Elementary will show at least a 3% increase in the number of 4th-6th grade students who earn Student Growth Percentiles in the 40th percentile or above as measured by the RISE math assessment.

Jen then discussed what is being done to help students achieve this goal - Americor Aides, ALEKS (math software program, and CFA’s (Common Formal Assessments)

Overview the implementation of the Teacher and Student Success Plan (TSSA)

Jen explained that the goals are the same in the Teacher and Student Success Plan as the Trust Land Plan. She stated that most of the budget is spent on salaries. She specifically discussed the Behavior Aide, who is new to our school this year, and how valuable she has been in  the incentives


Brian asked about how the new TItle I funds will be spent.  Jen said that most of the funds will go for salaries, incentives, and technology.

MIchael asked a general question about funding and if funding was unlimited, would salaries be the priority.  Jen said that yes, she would love to have more funds for hiring personnel.

Review Math and Reading Data

Jen reviewed the RISE Data from last year and how we compare in the areas of Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science.

Awareness

Benchmarks - practice with the tools, 

It is projected that students who take regular Benchmark increase scores by 9%.

Camee talked about how it would be helpful if the different programs at school could be explained to the parents to keep them informed.

Principal report on the status of the Membership Form that needs to be submitted on the School LAND Trust Website

Jen showed the Council the form that has the Community Council Members emails has been moved a few tabs in on the school website.

Assign a council member to work with the school webmaster to ensure the following items are found on the school website.  

  • Council member names with a direct email, phone number, or both (The school email or phone numbers are not acceptable for parent members.)
  • Proposed meeting schedule for the school year
  • Approved council minutes for at least a year
  • Teacher and Student Success Plan or link to the Plan
  •  Invitation for parents to serve on the Council
  • The following may be provided by posting specific links for each to the School LAND Trust website documents/information or copies on the website
    • Current year School LAND Trust Plan
    • Final Reports for at least the prior two years
    • Funding the school receives from the Program
  • If a district has in place a process for electronic voting, the website will include directions for electronic voting to elect parents for the school community council
